Politics: Who gave how much?

Hat tip article: Report: AFL-CIO, AFSCME, NEA top 2014 campaign donors; Koch No. 36

Summary: For the 2013-2014 election cycle. Giving by organizations lean heavily to the Left. Giving by individuals are more 50:50.

The bete noir of the Left, the Koch brothers rank 36th in the organization list. Only one brother is on the individual list, and he ranks as 90th.

On the other hand, neither list includes "dark money." Corporations and individuals do not have to report money given to certain kinds of non-profit organizations that can be politically active.

Quote: "Money is the mother's milk of politics." I would have guessed that the quote had a longer history, but it is only from 1966.

I am not certain what I think about this. I certainly have no problem with people, left or right, giving to people and causes they deem important. I certainly have no problems with people giving openly. I also think it is necessary for people to be able to donate to organizations and not have it published. There are too many instances of people, donating to a cause, and then being abused for it when the donor's lists were "leaked."
