One "record shattered" was about hurricanes: one hurricane was very strong, but hurricane frequency is only slightly above normal. Some parts of the Arctic are warmer, some are cooler. The surface temperatures of the oceans were among the 10th warmest.
This is Yahoo.com, and the author is described as "Senior Writer," not as a science writer. But this is not CLIMATE; it is WEATHER.
